Egg Moves - The Basics
Pokémon have a list of moves they learn as they level-up, and most beginners tend to stick with these moves when training their Pokémon. However, some Pokémon have access to a special list of new moves they cannot access through level-up, and these are sometimes far better than their regular moves.
These moves are called Egg Moves, and they can only be accessed by taking advantage of the Breeding mechanic.

Which Moves are Egg Moves?
Each individual Pokémon has a unique list of moves that they can only learn from breeding. You can find a list of these moves for each Pokémon by searching for them on Bulbapedia.
Passing Down Egg Moves
Egg Moves aren't taught directly to a Pokémon, but are instead passed down to an offspring when the following conditions are met.
If these conditions are met, the resulting offspring will have the Egg Move as one of its initial attacks upon hatching. An example of this process is provided below.
- Two parents of compatible Egg groups
- One parent has a move that is an Egg Move for the offspring (same species as mother)
