About Eevee Training
Pokémon has a rather strong following with some competitive players, with websites like Smogon dedicated to delivering key information for competitive players and further develop new strategies.
However, those who view competitive Pokémon from the outside are sometimes intimidated by the vast knowledge and terms required to find success in battles, or are overwhelmed with the task of choosing a specific set of Pokémon for battles. And websites with information for competitive battling tend to be more suited for people who already have knowledge and/or experience in the field. This is where Eevee Training comes in. The author, Kyle "MazinKaiser21", created the website as a stepping stone for players outside of the competitive community. It aims to provide the information and experience necessary for players to get the most use out of websites like Smogon and become active members of the community. The website will provide a look at the basics of competitive battling, stripping away most of the complicated examples and definitions other websites use to get the simplest, easiest-to-understand explanations for beginners. It will also make use of infographics, graphs, and statistics to help further educate new players. The website will take players through 3 distinct steps in order to prepare them for competitive battling: Beginner - Terms like Effort Values and Individual values are explained, with concrete examples used to show their effects on the gameplay. Intermediate - Processes like Pokémon Breeding are outlined, explaining how they work and what to do to make it easier. Advanced - Specific moveset ideas and advanced tactics are discussed to give the player ideas on how to make up their own movesets and strategies. Links to videos of battles will be provided and will be accompanied by my analysis on what happened in the battle. After readers go through Eevee Training's 3 steps, they will be ready to start tackling more advanced websites like Smogon and thus be well on their way to joining the competitive battling community. |
About the Author
Kyle "MazinKaiser21" is currently a 3rd year CS undergraduate at UCSD. He has played Pokémon since the original Pokémon Red and Blue versions when they were released in 1998. He has played every generation since, and began learning about competitive play at the tail end of the Generation III games, Ruby and Sapphire. Starting with Diamond and Pearl, he began playing competitively online, and has an overall win/loss record at around 50%.
He often uses less popular Pokémon online and experiments with movesets to try and find strategies and methods to win with oft overlooked Pokémon. He strongly believes that competitive Pokémon battling can be appealing and fun for anyone looking for a new competitive game to replace more popular games like League of Legends. He also believes that the new games can still be enjoyed by former Pokémon players who have since moved on to other games. It is because of this belief that he created Eevee Training to try and bring these two groups in to the competitive Pokémon battling community. |
